Job summary

Tekberry is seeking a Mechanical Designer to work onsite in Wilmington, NC. The role involves developing and refining mechanical equipment designs and layouts using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, supporting production systems and resolving design challenges.

The position is contract-based, with a 40-hour workweek and occasional overtime during peak project periods. Primary onsite work with potential vendor site visits across North Carolina.

Pay Rate: $22 - 24/hour

Tekberry is looking for a highly qualified and motivated Mechanical Designer to work onsite with our client in Wilmington, NC. This role will develop and refine mechanical equipment designs and layouts using advanced CAD tools while supporting production systems and resolving equipment design challenges.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical equipment designs and layouts using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
• Produce and maintain detailed drawing packages, build packages, machine part lists, illustrations, and equipment specifications.
• Ensure drawings and designs meet established machine drafting standards.
• Redesign mechanical components to reduce installation costs, eliminate equipment interferences, and correct design deficiencies.
• Execute design changes to resolve equipment and process challenges.
• Create detailed sketches and marked-up drawings to support changing project requirements.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure designs meet functional and performance requirements.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering.
• 3 5 years of professional mechanical design experience, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience developing mechanical equipment designs using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and translate engineering solutions into equipment design requirements.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including machining and fabrication.
• Strong understanding of practical, manufacturable mechanical design.
• Commitment to job-site safety.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project requirements.
• Experience using precision measurement tools such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers is preferred.

This position is primarily onsite and may require occasional travel to vendor locations and Optical Fiber and Cable manufacturing sites throughout North Carolina. The standard schedule is 40 hours per week, with flexibility for an additional 10 20 hours of overtime during peak project periods.
