Job summary

PayCruit is seeking a Mechanical/Structural Designer in Houston to create and check 3D models and drawings, and to generate equipment BOMs per customer requirements. You will support engineers and ensure accuracy, reliability, and safety across mechanical, piping, and structural scopes.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in mechanical, piping, and structural work, plus experience with data center environments and electrical facility understanding. Hybrid schedule with in-office days is required.

Qualifications

  • Designer should possess a Technical Certification in the design discipline or 10+ years of experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical, piping, and structural scopes.
  • Experience with high-density data centers and hyperscale environments preferred.
  • Understanding of electrical systems for facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and check drawings and BOM as per customer requirements.
  • Prepare bulk MTOs and detailed BOMs without supervision.
  • Ensure drawings follow Engineering and QA/QC standards.
  • Produce mechanical, piping, structural deliverables and related documents.
  • Review vendor data and drawings for compliance with client specs.

Job description

Job Location: Houston, Texas 77072 - Hybrid

Job Duration: 12+ months contract

Pay Rate - $45- $63/hr

A Hybrid work model - In Office on Monday and Wednesday and every other Friday.

Mastery knowledge and proficiency in:
  • Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)
  • PDF Editor (Adobe, Foxit, or other equivalent)
  • Solid Works (required)
  • Autodesk AutoCAD

The role of Mechanical / Structural Designer is to support the Engineers and Engineering Manager in providing 3D models, drawings and equipment BOM as per customer requirements independently.

The Mechanical / Structural Designer will support the service personnel in solving problems by simulating the problems in drawings. The Mechanical / Structural Designer will be able to work on simple Engineering Work Request and comply with all departmental Work Instructions and Engineering Standards.

The Mechanical / Structural Designer will be responsible for creating and checking drawings / designs; interface communication, and ensuring the accuracy, reliability, efficiency, and safety of the mechanical, piping, and structural scopes of work for Hyperscale Data Center Modules meets customer’s requirements and Industrial Standards they produce.

The Mechanical / Structural Designer is expected to resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of acquired technical experience and analysis of factual information

Roles and Responsibilities

The Designer will support the goals and programs established by the management team. These roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide and check drawings / BOM as per customer requirements.
  • Prepare bulk MTOs (Material Take Offs) and detailed BOMs (Bill of Materials) with no supervision from Engineer (preferred)
  • Ensure drawings follow the Engineering and QA/QC standards.
  • Prepare and complete various Mechanical, Piping, Structural deliverable drawings and documents such as piping layout/general arrangements, piping isometrics, piping schedule, piping tie-point/ interface drawings, piping insulation details, structural general arrangement drawings, structural weld details /notes, structural connection detail drawings, foundation support details, equipment mounting / support details, pipe support details, weight / COG reports, manual valve list, HVAC ducting, instrumentation, flow diagrams, Process and Instrument Diagrams, pump alignment drawings, handrails / ladders, walkways, and stairs as per OSHA, platform and grating detailed drawings, etc.
  • Supervise the outsourcing of engineering design work to 3rd party engineering / design firms.
  • Review, as required, vendor data and drawings to ensure compliance with client specifications or applicable standards.
  • Produce report data from models and assist in providing necessary design information to Project/Client/Third Party, as required.
  • Provide “Lessons learned” feedback and utilize findings from the process to update tools and procedures.
Educational

Designer should be in possession of a Technical Certification in the design discipline or min 10 years experience.

Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience mechanical, piping, and structural scopes of work.
  • Ability to produce drawings / sketches to illustrate design / ideas.
  • Experience with high-density data centers and hyperscale environments (preferred)
  • Understanding of the purpose of electrical system for facilities.
General Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including but not limited to:
  • ANSI – American National Standards Institute
  • AWS – American Welding Society
  • IBC – International Building Code
  • MFMA – Metal Framing Manufactures Association
  • MSS – Manufactures Standardization Society (Valves and Fittings Industry)
  • OSHA – Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • NFPA – National Fire Protection Association
Operational knowledge in:
  • SAP (ERP Tool w/ Engineering Modules and Transactions)
  • Autodesk Revit
  • Autodesk BIM 360
General
