Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Design, Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field; bachelor’s acceptable.
  • 10+ years of progressive mechanical design experience.
  • Proficiency with 2D CAD and 3D model-based design systems.
  • Ability to interpret process documents, vendor drawings, and field information.
  • Experience leading design reviews and coordinating with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical designs that are safe, efficient, and aligned with project specifications, supporting multiple projects concurrently.
  • Manage mechanical design activities, including discipline work processes, standards maintenance, and development of CAD/3D design tools.
  • Serve as the mechanical design discipline lead for large or complex projects, guiding design activities and documentation closeout.
  • Develop comprehensive mechanical design packages, such as virtual 3D models, equipment arrangements, general arrangement drawings, fabrication, or installation details, and vendor-data integration.
  • Provide expert advice to project teams and engineers in 3D modeling, equipment layout, mechanical detailing, maintainability, and construction coordination.
  • Model and detail mechanical equipment and interfaces with piping, structural, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Oversee technical aspects and provide guidance to vendors, engineering consultants, design contractors, and fabrication or installation contractors.
  • Support field activities including site verification, constructability reviews, installation, commissioning, and resolution of field-related design issues.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of organization-wide mechanical design standards, specifications, templates, and libraries.
  • Communicate project scope, design decisions, risks, status, and technical issues with internal teams and stakeholders for alignment.
  • Coordinate across disciplines, performing design reviews, interference resolution, and model checks.
  • Verify site conditions, incorporate site information, and ensure designs adhere to applicable codes and project requirements.
  • Approve mechanical drawings and models for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Mentor less experienced designers, fostering best practices and effective use of CAD/3D tools.

Position Summary
  • We are seeking a highly experienced Senior General Designer (Mechanical) to lead the development of safe, efficient, and practical mechanical designs for capital projects.

  • The successful candidate will serve as a key member of project teams, providing expert guidance in 3D modeling, equipment layout, and mechanical detailing to ensure designs meet safety, operability, reliability, and constructability standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the creation of mechanical designs that are safe, efficient, and aligned with project specifications, supporting multiple projects concurrently.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency with 2D CAD and 3D model-based design systems used for equipment layout and detailing.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design principles, including equipment arrangement, tolerances, materials, fabrication practices, installation methods, and relevant standards.
  • Ability to interpret process and engineering documents, vendor drawings, specifications, equipment data, and field information to produce coordinated design deliverables.
  • Strong experience leading design reviews, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, resolving technical issues, and communicating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in leading large or complex mechanical projects in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Skills in developing and maintaining design standards, templates, and libraries for mechanical design.
  • Demonstrated leadership in coordinating with vendors, contractors, and cross-discipline teams.
