Job summary

Brunswick Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Designer for the Mercury Racing Engineering team in Fond du Lac, WI. You will create engine or outboard component models and drawings, drive CAD modeling, and ensure proper manufacture and inspection for form, fit and function.

The role emphasizes GD&T and collaboration with manufacturing and suppliers to optimize design for manufacturability, with a hybrid on-site work arrangement and an eligible discretionary bonus program.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Design required.
  • Minimum 2+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with PTC Creo and GD&T; other CAD acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical component design and development using CAD modeling with PTC Creo; include plastics, rubber, sheet metal, casting/machining parts.
  • Conceptualization of mechanical solutions with defined constraints or design targets.
  • Develop component and assembly drawings utilizing Mercury specs and GD&T.
  • Create CAD files: solid models, drawings, assemblies, layouts, overlays, motion envelopes.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional design teams on packaging and interfaces.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing/suppliers to optimize manufacturability and assembly.
  • Support prototypes and testing fixtures with internal model makers.
  • Maintain knowledge of manufacturing/design practices for component optimization.
  • Learn latest 3D CAD techniques and software releases.

Location: Fond du Lac, WI

Workplace Category: Hybrid - Onsite at least 3 days per week

Position Overview

As a Mechanical Designer on the Mercury Racing Engineering team, you will create engine or outboard component models and drawings for new programs and current product improvements. You will drive the execution of mechanical component design through 3D CAD modeling, create drawings from these models, detail with Mercury specifications, and ensure proper manufacture and inspection for component form, fit, and function.

Essential Functions
  • Mechanical component design and development using CAD modeling with PTC Creo; this may include injection molded plastics, molded rubber, sheet metal, and casting/machining parts.
  • Conceptualization of mechanical solutions with defined constraints or design targets.
  • Develop component and assembly drawings utilizing applicable Mercury specifications and proper GD&T.
  • Create all types of supporting CAD files to determine form, fit, and function: solid modeling parts, drawings, working with assemblies, layouts, overlays, and motion envelopes.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional design departments to resolve packaging and component interfaces.
  • Work with manufacturing and/or suppliers to optimize design features for manufacturability and/or ease of assembly.
  • Work with internal model makers to create prototypes or supporting test fixtures or tools.
  • Maintain a technical knowledge of manufacturing and design practices to guide and develop component optimization.
  • Learn latest 3D CAD modeling techniques and maintain efficiency with new software releases.
  • Perform drawing releases, quote submissions, and shop build orders for prototype parts.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design
  • 2+ years of related experience
  • Experience with PTC Creo solid modeling and drawing creation (alternative software experience considered)
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years experience in detailed mechanical component design
  • Experience with marine propulsion systems or boating in general
  • Experience with machining, fabrication, or other hands on mechanical work
  • Working knowledge of Siemens Teamcenter PLM software
Pay and Benefits

The anticipated pay range for this position is $54,300 - $85,700 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus program.
