Job summary

Stratus is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to support piping design across complex industrial projects. The role requires developing 2D and 3D piping layouts, coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines, and delivering high-quality construction packages.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in piping design for manufacturing, chemical, food & beverage, or oil & gas facilities, with proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D, CADWorx, SP3D, and Navisworks.

Qualifications

  • 4-12 years of piping design experience in industrial facilities such as manufacturing, chemical, oil & gas, or related sectors.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in drafting/design preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience developing construction-ready piping design packages and understanding of codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 2D and 3D piping designs, including general arrangements and isometrics.
  • Create piping models aligned with PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Route piping systems with safety, constructability, and accessibility in mind.
  • Produce equipment layouts, line lists, tie-in details, and BOMs.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, process, structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams.

The Role

We are seeking experiencedMechanical Designerto support engineering and design efforts across complex industrial projects. The ideal candidate has a strong background inpipingdesign withinmanufacturing, chemical, food & beverage, or oil & gasfacilities, with the ability to independently developpipinglayouts, support engineering teams, and deliver high-quality construction packages.

Responsibilities

PipingDesign & Layout

  • Develop 2D and 3Dpipingdesigns, including general arrangements, plans, sections, and isometrics.
  • Createpipingmodels aligned with process flow diagrams (PFDs) andpiping& instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Routepipingsystems considering safety, constructability, operations, maintenance, and accessibility.
  • Select pipe materials, valve types, fittings, and specialty items based on project specifications and industry standards.
  • Produce and finalize deliverables such as equipment layouts, line lists, tie-in details, and bill of materials.
Project Execution

  • Work closely with mechanical, process, structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams to coordinate designs.
  • Assist in field verification, site walks, laser scans, and as-built documentation.
  • Support construction teams with design clarifications, RFIs, and redline updates.
  • Ensure designs comply with project specifications, codes, and client standards (ASME, API, ANSI, USDA/FDA for F&B, etc.).
Tools & Technology

  • Developpipingmodels using tools such as AutoCAD Plant D, CADWorx, SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), or similar platforms.
  • Work with Navisworks for clash detection, model reviews, and coordination with multi-discipline teams.
  • Organize drawings and deliverables in alignment with project document control requirements.
Qualifications

Required

  • 4-12years ofpipingdesign experience in industrial facilities( manufacturing, chemical, oil & gas, food & beverage, or related).
  • Associate degree or technical certification in drafting/design preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Demonstrated experience developing construction-readypipingdesign packages.
  • Strong understanding ofpipingdesign principles, industrial equipment, and process systems.
  • Proficiency in industry design software (AutoCAD, CADWorx , Plant 3D, E3D, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards: ASME B31.3 / B31.1, API, NFPA, and sanitary design standards where applicable .
Preferred

  • Experience in brownfield/retrofit conditions and navigating congested environments.
  • Experience supporting FEL, detailed design, and EPC-style projects.
  • Knowledge of skid-based systems, utilitypiping, and process equipment layouts.
  • Experience interpreting laser scan data and integrating point clouds into 3D models.
