Job summary

A leading research and development organization in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking an experienced engineer to develop medical products. This role involves working on all phases of product design including testing and verification, collaborating across disciplines. Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, three years of experience, and proficiency in SolidWorks CAD. Job Summary

You will be a core team member in the design and development of medical products and systems. This role contributes to all phases of product design, including initial requirements definition, conceptualization, feasibility assessment/demonstration, detailed design including engineering analysis and testing; verification testing and documentation, and transfer to the client (or manufacturing) and follow‑on support as needed. You will work on projects that typically involve teams from multiple disciplines: mechanical, electrical, software, systems, industrial design, and human factors.

Responsibilities
  • Develop mechanical products, subsystems, and/or components
  • Participate in shaping the product design through upfront brainstorming and concept generation, as well as defining the functional needs, system requirements, and verification methods
  • Apply creative thought and state‑of‑the‑art technology to solve technical design problems throughout the entire development process
  • Collaborate with technicians and/or do hands‑on assembly and testing work in the lab
  • Work with Project Management and task leads to complete tasks within budget and schedule
  • Generate design, development, and support documentation following QS/ISO processes and procedures
  • Communicate results and progress to project leadership using written and oral communication

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field; three years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in conceptualizing design requirements and being able to transform requirements into a feasible design based on both verbal and visual information under moderate supervision
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD
  • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques e.g. plastic part design, machined parts, sheet metal, packaging of electronics/cables, etc., for products such as automotive, consumer, and medical devices
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with PDM or PTC Windchill vaults
  • Plastic injection molding and plastic part design
  • Hands on general lab skills e.g. building and testing prototypes
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5

Travel Requirements: Limited travel up to 10% annually
