Job summary

Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Mechanical Designer opportunity in the Bellevue/Everett area of Washington. You will produce robust CAD models, develop highly complex mechanical designs, and perform trade studies to down-select optimal options.

Qualified candidates will have a BS in engineering and 7+ years CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred), with strong analytical, writing, and communication skills and experience with PDM/PLM systems. Travel 0-15%.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent) with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• SolidWorks CAD proficiency.
• Creative and analytical problem solving with multitasking ability.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• High integrity and teamwork orientation.
• GD&T experience and ability to check fabrication drawings.
• DFM/DFMA experience and mechanical design expertise.
• Experience with PDM/PLM systems and quality standards (ASME NQA-1/ISO 9001).
• 7+ years CAD experience; SolidWorks preferred.
• Nuclear design experience preferred; supplier oversight experience.

Responsibilities

Position Title: Mechanical Designer

Position Description

Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Mechanical Designer opportunity.

Job Responsibilities

• Produce robust CAD models that facilitate fast-paced design evolution and derivative creation that leverage advanced CAD modeling techniques and methodologies.
• Develop and maintain highly complex mechanical designs. Pro-actively seek out, research, and propose unique solutions. Conduct trade studies to down-select best option.
• Use model configurations to support analysis needs, such as: Structural, Neutronics, Thermal-Hydraulic, Radiological, Safety, etc.
• Document design progress, changes, and decisions via Company's internal & external online collaboration workspaces.
• Create supporting technical presentations, documents, and reports as needed.
• Create engineering drawings (layout, detail, interface control, general arrangement, etc.) per ASME 14.1 and Y14.5 standards.
• Perform tolerance stack up calculations.
• Check and review drawings for accuracy of information and conformance to ASME & Company drafting standards via electronic redline process.
• Ensure and maintain configuration control of models/drawings via Company's product data and product life-cycle management software.
• Regularly review design group generated documents and propose improvements. Pro-actively contribute to written guidance and standards development.

Job Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent and 3+ years of relevant experience.
• CAD proficiency in SolidWorks
• Creative thinker with strong analytical/problem solving skills and ability to work multiple tasks concurrently with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
• Organized and detail oriented, with excellent writing and communication skills
• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork
• Demonstrated experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
• Experience checking fabrication drawings
• Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
• Experience in Mechanical and Machine Design
• Experience using a product data management (PDM) system preferred
• Experience working to quality standard, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
• A minimum of seven years of CAD proficiency is required, SolidWorks preferred
• Demonstrated experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
• Experience using a product data management (PDM) system
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Nuclear design experience preferred but not required
• Demonstrated experience in oversight of supplier and subcontractor organizations in an engineering environment.
• Demonstrated diverse and robust experience in tests of complex mechanical components and equipment in high temperature and multi-discipline integration. Previous experience with nuclear mechanical components, nuclear reactor equipment, or similar design is highly desired.
• Proficient knowledge and experience with nuclear quality fabrication, construction, and lifecycle management processes (including In-Service Inspection, material surveillance, vibration programs, equipment qualification programs, etc.), and similar skills highly desired.
• Exceptional communication skills to integrate with a geographically and organizationally diverse engineering team are required.
• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
• Travel Required: 0-15%

Job Details

• Job Type: Contract
• Pay Rate Range: $36-$65/hr (Pay rates are approved based on candidate location, education and experience)
• Location: Bellevue or Everett, WA
• Export control regulations require candidates to be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Legal Permanent Resident, or of a protected person status
