Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Mechanical BIM Designer in Austin, TX to develop 3D Revit models for mechanical piping and ductwork, and to transform concepts into detailed construction drawings.

You will work with piping designers and field personnel to support fabrication, coordination, and installation, learning contractor-side detailing and construction workflows as you grow in a construction-focused detailing role.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in a mechanical engineering consulting environment.
• Experience using Autodesk Revit for mechanical system modeling and design.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and P&IDs.

Responsibilities

Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical BIM Designer to support the development of 3D models and construction drawings for mechanical piping and ductwork systems. This role is ideal for someone with 1-3 years of experience working for a mechanical engineering consulting firm who has experience using Revit to create and modify building system layouts and is looking to grow into construction-focused detailing and VDC.

Working alongside experienced piping designers, project teams, and field personnel, you will help transform engineering concepts and P&IDs into constructible 3D models that support fabrication, coordination, and installation efforts.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain 3D Revit models for mechanical piping, ductwork, and equipment systems
• Convert engineering concepts, P&IDs, and design documents into detailed construction drawings
• Support piping designers and project teams with layout development and model updates
• Create plan views, sections, details, and installation drawings for construction teams
• Coordinate mechanical systems within the model to support constructability and project execution
• Review drawings and models for completeness, accuracy, and consistency
• Assist with project documentation and drawing revisions throughout the project lifecycle
• Collaborate with engineering, project management, and field personnel to resolve design issues
• Participate in BIM coordination efforts and maintain project documentation standards
• Learn contractor-side detailing practices, fabrication workflows, and construction execution processes

Skills and Requirements

• 1-3 years of experience working for a mechanical engineering consulting firm or similar environment
• Experience using Autodesk Revit for mechanical system modeling and design
• Familiarity with mechanical piping and ductwork systems
• Experience creating and modifying construction documents, layouts, and design drawings
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and P&IDs
• Understanding of mechanical building systems and how components interact within facilities
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with engineering, operations, and field teams
• Stable work history with demonstrated commitment to previous employers
