Job summary

Applied Materials in Austin, TX is seeking a Mechanical Design Systems Engineer to join the Automation Technology Group. You will design, build, test, and commission mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems that enable automation across our manufacturing operations, spending about 30–40% in CAD and 60–70% on the shop floor building and prototyping.

You will collaborate with the Technical Program Manager, Engineering Manager, and cross‑functional partners to bring automation concepts from design

Qualifications

• 4–8 years of mechanical design and hands-on system integration experience.
• Experience with automation, capital equipment, or manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency with Siemens NX and/or SolidWorks for 3D modeling and drawings.
• Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems and fixtures or automation equipment.
• Ability to read and create engineering drawings with GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and commission mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems for automation in manufacturing.
• Spend ~30–40% in CAD and ~60–70% on the shop floor building, prototyping, integrating, and troubleshooting the systems you design.
• Collaborate with the Technical Program Manager, Engineering Manager, and cross‑functional partners to bring automation concepts from design through deployment.
• Ensure designs meet quality, manufacturability, and integration requirements across subsystems.
