Job summary

Leidos’ Defense Systems Mechanical Design & Analysis Department in Huntsville, Alabama is seeking a mechanical design engineer to join our team designing the next generation of radars to protect America and its allies.

You will lead an Integrated Product Team (IPT) developing the Low Band Surveillance (LBS) product and direct the technical work of a team of engineers to meet program requirements, schedule milestones, and budget constraints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 12+ years of applicable experience or 10+ years with MS degree.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers to develop solutions that meet technical, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Strong SolidWorks user.
  • Active secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Own IPT execution: lead cost, schedule, and technical performance for the hardware.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure technical alignment with program goals.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate IPT risks and opportunities.
  • Provide clear status to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.

Job description

Leidos’ Defense Systems Mechanical Design & Analysis Department is seeking a mechanical design engineer to join our team in Huntsville Alabama designing the next generation of radars to protect America and its allies.

You will lead an Integrate Product Team (IPT) as they develop the Low Band Surveillance (LBS) product. You will direct the technical work of a team of engineers, ensuring their work meets program requirements, schedule milestones, and budget constraints. Technical depth and understanding of execution are essential to coordinate between subsystem leads and ensure alignment across the team. This is not your average engineering position. You will work on a team of the most talented engineers in the region who push you to be better every day. This is a fast-paced program with unique technical challenges that will be a rewarding milestone in any engineering career.

Primary Responsibilities

Integrated Product Team Leadership: Own overall execution performance for the IPT scope. Lead cost, schedule, and technical performance alignment for the hardware team. Ensure program commitments are executable and aligned to baseline objectives.

Technical Oversight: Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver on program objectives. Partner with subsystem leads and engineering teams to ensure technical alignment supports program goals. Drive disciplined execution and proactive risk management across the IPT.

Risk and Opportunity Management: Identify, assess, and manage IPT risks and opportunities. Develop and implement mitigation plans to address risks and capitalize on opportunities.

Stakeholder Engagement: Provide clear and concise status communication to leadership and stakeholders. Represent the IPT in governance forums and lead design reviews. Maintain compliance with contractual requirements and internal governance standards.

Execution Excellence: Drive issue resolution across functional boundaries to ensure program success. Promote a culture focused on outcomes, execution discipline, and continuous improvement.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • 12+ years of applicable experience or 10+ years with MS degree
  • Experience leading a team of engineers to develop solutions that meet technical, cost, and schedule requirements
  • Strong SolidWorks user
  • Strong desire to lead, guide, and mentor
  • Active secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain secret security clearance

  • Windchill PLM experience
  • Design and/or Integration experience in the following areas

Pay Range

Pay Range $131,300.00 - $237,350.00
