Job summary

DwyerOmega seeks a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Fluid Components International product lines in San Marcos, CA. You will create SolidWorks models from 2D drawings and assist in part design, prototyping, and documentation to support real-world product development.

You will work with engineers to ensure modeling standards, file management, and manufacturability considerations are integrated into designs. This internship provides hands-on experience in drafting and project-based CAD work.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks (academic or project experience acceptable).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T fundamentals.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Basic understanding of mechanical components and manufacturing processes.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Generate precise 3D part and assembly models in SolidWorks from 2D engineering drawings.
• Create new designs for mechanical parts, components, and fixtures using SolidWorks based on engineering requirements and intended application.
• Support the prototyping process through 3D printing, machining, assembly, testing, and design iterations to evaluate fit, function, and manufacturability.
• Apply company modeling standards, naming conventions, and file management practices.
• Review drawings for clarity and completeness prior to modeling; identify and communicate discrepancies.
• Organize and maintain CAD files within the company’s PDM or file management system.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure models reflect design intent and manufacturability considerations.
