Job summary

Bowman is seeking a Mechanical (HVAC) Design Intern for Summer 2027 in Baltimore, MD. This role introduces you to mechanical design across commercial, government, academic, R&D, multi-family, and industrial projects, including developing construction documents.

You will learn under supervision, interact with multiple departments, and contribute to design work while gaining exposure to codes and project processes. The program emphasizes growth, mentorship, and hands-on experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.
  • Enrolled in an ABET-accredited degree program, preferably in a mechanical or architectural engineering program of study.
  • Interest in MEP design as a future career path.
  • Introductory study or knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT, TraneTrace, and/or eQuest modeling software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Design appropriate mechanical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project manager, and occasionally the client.
  • Conduct field observations visits to accurately document the existing field conditions.
  • Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget under direction of a senior engineer and project manager.
  • If directed, review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, change order proposals).
  • Review and learn codes applicable to the discipline.

Purpose

This position provides an introduction to all levels of mechanical design for commercial, government, academic, R&D, multi-family, and industrial projects, including the development of construction documents.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
  • Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
