Job summary

Galvion in Portsmouth, NH seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer III to join a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering team. You will design and validate electro-mechanical systems that integrate with the human body and perform in demanding environments.

You will develop prototypes, create 3D CAD models and drawings, analyze thermal and structural performance, and collaborate with suppliers and other engineers to iterate designs for manufacturability and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 8–10 years of mechanical engineering experience in a product development environment
• Strong experience with SolidWorks or an equivalent 3D CAD platform, including drawings and PDM
• Experience designing molded and machined parts
• Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Experience performing engineering calculations and analyzing test data using Excel, MATLAB, or similar tools
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to challenging mechanical problems
• Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
• A proactive, customer-focused, and 'can-do' mindset

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components, assemblies, mechanisms, and electro-mechanical systems using 3D CAD/SolidWorks
• Create and review engineering drawings, including GD&T, BOMs, and supporting documentation
• Design packaging for rigid and flexible electronic circuits and interconnections
• Perform structural, thermal, heat-transfer, and tolerance-stack analyses
• Develop prototypes, assemble and test systems, and use 3D printers and shop tools to evaluate designs
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to support both low- and high-volume production
• Work with molded and machined components across a variety of materials
• Collaborate with suppliers to ensure quality, repeatable assembly, delivery, and manufacturing capacity
• Participate in design reviews, troubleshooting, fault finding, and sustaining engineering activities
• Work closely with cross-functional engineering and product development teams to rapidly iterate designs
• Support continuous improvement and engineering excellence initiatives
