Job summary

Axcelis is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to support design and development of hardware for next-generation semiconductor capital equipment. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to develop mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

This role offers hands-on design, testing, and collaboration with experienced engineers. Responsibilities include creating CAD models, translating requirements into designs, and supporting prototypes

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• 0-3 years of mechanical engineering experience, including internships or co-op.
• Experience with 3D CAD software (Creo preferred, or equivalent).
• Understanding of statics, dynamics, materials, and machine design.
• Familiarity with GD&T principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication; collaborative team player.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components, assemblies, and supporting hardware for semiconductor equipment.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Assist in translating system and product requirements into mechanical design solutions.
• Perform basic engineering analyses, including tolerance stack‑ups, thermal, and structural, with guidance from senior engineers.
• Support prototype builds, testing, and design verification activities.
• Collect, analyze, and document test data to evaluate design performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Participate in troubleshooting activities and root cause investigations for design and system‑level issues.
• Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, sourcing, and service teams to support product development efforts.
• Assist with engineering change notices, design reviews, and product release activities.
