Job summary

Atlas Copco North America LLC in Houston, TX is seeking a Mechanical Designer to bridge engineering and manufacturing, driving the design and innovation of components and new products aligned with customer and market needs.

You will design equipment, produce layouts and BOMs, develop P&ID diagrams, and utilize AutoCAD and Inventor. You will manage ECOs, support production, and ensure safety and quality standards in a collaborative hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• Experience: 2–5 years in mechanical design, preferably with rotating equipment like compressors, pumps, or generators.
• Knowledge: Intermediate mechanical design principles; familiarity with pressure systems and vessel design standards is a plus.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and ideally SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software.

Responsibilities

• Design equipment and systems tailored to customer specs, performing necessary calculations and coordinating with vendors.
• Create detailed layouts, specs, and design documents for new and modified products.
• Develop P&ID diagrams from client specs and integrate into BOMs for manufacturing and QA.
• Use CAD tools to create and iterate mechanical components and assemblies.
• Manage engineering changes including ECOs and design notifications to maintain product integrity.
• Prepare and maintain engineering documentation for cross‑functional teams and audits.
• Ensure designs meet safety standards and company quality benchmarks.
• Support prototyping, testing, and production line setup to validate designs.
