Job summary

Software Placement Group in Bucyrus, OH is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering team. You will perform heavy equipment mechanical and electrical design, spend the majority of time on design work, and ensure documentation meets UL and NEC standards.

You will use AutoCAD and 3D modeling software, manage multiple projects, and support production, vendors, and the sales process. Local candidates only; relocation is not available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma
• 4–8 years in a similar mechanical design role at heavy equipment OEM
• Mechanical design experience including structural and conveyor systems
• 3D modeling experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines
• Must be local to Bucyrus, OH area (relocation not available)

Responsibilities

• Complete mechanical and electrical design of equipment, focusing on design work
• Modify existing designs based on customer requests
• Ensure design and electrical docs meet UL and NEC standards
• Document bill of materials for design projects
• Manage multiple design projects in various stages
• Support sales and quoting processes
• Complete and document ECNs
• Provide design/mfg support to production and vendors
• Participate in weekly design status meetings
• Support mechanical troubleshooting as needed
• Use AutoCAD and 3D modeling software
• Sit at desk up to 90% of the day with some shop floor visits
• Perform other duties as directed by management

Location: Bucyrus, OH | Schedule: Full-time, on-site

Overview

An established, privately held heavy equipment manufacturer with over a century in business is adding a Mechanical Design Engineer to its engineering team. This role offers the chance to work on diverse mechanical and electrical design projects within a stable, family-oriented organization known for taking care of its employees.

What you'll do

• Complete mechanical and electrical design of equipment, spending the majority of time on design work
• Make modifications to existing designs based on customer requests
• Ensure design and electrical documentation is accurate and meets UL and NEC standards
• Document bill of materials for design projects
• Manage multiple design projects in various stages
• Support the sales and quoting process
• Complete and document engineering change notices (ECNs)
• Provide support to production and vendors related to design and manufacturability
• Participate in weekly design status meetings
• Support mechanical troubleshooting as needed
• Utilize AutoCAD and 3D modeling software
• Spend up to 90% of the day at a desk, with occasional visits to the production floor
• Perform other duties as directed by management

Required qualifications

• High school diploma
• At least four to eight years of experience in a similar Design Engineer role at a heavy equipment manufacturer or OEM (original equipment manufacturer), depending on education level
• Mechanical design experience, including structural and conveyor systems
• 3D modeling experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and timelines
• Strong attention to detail
• Must be local to the Bucyrus, OH area; relocation is not available

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Electrical design experience, including control panels and routings
• Vault software experience
• ERP experience
• Experience in job shop environments
