Job summary

Columbus McKinnon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to coordinate across product management, engineering, and sales to translate market needs into robust design specifications. You will revise designs for manufacturability and support product development with mechanical and electrical design efforts.

The role involves creating 2D/3D models, preparing BOMs, and performing calculations for engineering change requests, including ERP. Collaboration with supply chain and QA is essential.

Qualifications

• Requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2+ years engineering experience or a related combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years of CAD experience in 3D design software (SolidWorks and/or Pro-E).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with product management, engineering, and sales to translate market requests into design specifications.
• Revise designs to improve manufacturability for ease of production.
• Assist in design system standards review and ongoing improvement.
• Assist with mechanical and electrical design activities that meet specifications and are manufacturable.
• Develop 2D and 3D models/drawings of assemblies and components using CAD software.
• Provide technical resource to customers and internal departments for product inquiries and problems.
• Collaborate to complete design, test, and documentation tasks.
• Train and assist engineers, technicians, and designers.
• Coordinate with supply chain to specify cost-effective components.
• Prepare calculations, layouts, BOMs, and maintain components in ERP/database.
• Participate in manufacturing or prototyping of components or products.
• Develop testing criteria and establish test parameters; compile data for evaluation.
• Prepare BOMs to address Engineering Change Requests including ERP.
• Review failed components to determine causes and preventive actions.
• Follow safety rules and perform other duties as assigned.
