Job summary

Smiths Group’s Flex-Tek division seeks an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to drive automation and manufacturing technology improvements across sites. You will design, prototype, test, and optimize machines, tooling, and fixtures, building CAD models and drawings and collaborating with controls and electrical teams to deliver practical, reliable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience in manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, or automation.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical solutions for tooling, fixtures, guards, robot stands, and custom components.
• Create and maintain 3D models, drawings, assemblies and BOMs using CAD software such as SolidWorks.
• Perform engineering checks on loads, torque, tolerances, material selection, and ergonomics.
• Collaborate with controls, electrical, and vendor teams to deliver reliable mechanical solutions.
• Lead prototype builds, testing, and production handoff; document results and next steps.
