Job summary

Flex-Tek, a division of Smiths Group, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to advance automation and manufacturing technology across Flex-Tek sites. You will design, build, test, and deliver practical mechanical solutions for tooling, fixtures, and automated equipment, with hands-on involvement on the shop floor.

Responsibilities include CAD modeling in SolidWorks, documentation, cross-functional collaboration with controls and vendors, and supporting prototype builds through production

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience in manufacturing equipment or automation.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks, including assemblies and drawings.
• Knowledge of machining, welding, sheet metal, and fabrication processes.
• Hands-on shop floor experience and problem-solving mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical solutions for tooling, fixtures, guards, and machine components.
• Create 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and CAM-ready details in SolidWorks.
• Collaborate with controls and electrical teams, vendors, and production staff.
• Lead prototype builds, testing, validation, and production handoff.
