Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory in State College, PA, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Designer to join the Mechanical and Electrical Design Department. The role focuses on drafting and 3-D modeling in support of ARL’s mission and DoD-related projects.

The position requires on-site work in State College, with project-dependent hybrid options and the usual ARL background checks and clearances.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree required; 6+ years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination).
• Experience with mechanical design for research projects.
• Ability to work on-site with potential for project-dependent hybrid work.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical design support for research programs, collaborating with R&D Engineers and support teams.
• Create intermediate 3D solid models for parts, assemblies, and COTS following standards and methods.
• Create 2D detail drawings and BOMs for fabrication of parts and assemblies.
• Resolve design, material, and component issues.
• Perform Service Center functions including documentation control, archiving (.stp and .x_t), and database entry.
• Provide work status updates to senior staff and engineers; participate in design reviews.
