Job summary

TSC in Arlington, VA, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to support Navy missions with hands-on aerospace hardware expertise. You will work on space/air platforms, applying modern aerospace design standards and contributing to high-priority programs.

Responsibilities include designing structural components, creating 3D CAD models and drawings, collaborating with integration and test teams, and authoring test plans for vibration/thermal-vacuum tests. A DoD clearance is required or obtainable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • 2–5 years of aerospace mechanical design experience.
  • Direct experience with aerospace/space hardware design and standards.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (Siemens NX).
  • Knowledge of GD&T (ANSI Y14.5).
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI.

Job Overview

TSC is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to support work at the Naval Research Laboratory. The position offers the opportunity to directly impact high‑priority Navy missions and requires hands‑on experience with aerospace or spacecraft hardware and knowledge of modern aerospace design standards.

Responsibilities
  • Design, analyze, and direct the integration of structural components and mechanical assemblies for advanced space or air platforms.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings.
  • Collaborate with integration and test teams to oversee component assembly.
  • Author test plans, design specialized test fixtures, and participate in hardware verification campaigns, including vibration, shock, thermal‑vacuum, and/or altitude testing.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–5 years of proven experience in aerospace mechanical design.
  • Direct experience with aerospace and/or spacecraft hardware design, including familiarity with current aerospace design practices and hardware standards.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (preferably Siemens NX).
  • Knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI clearance.
  • Ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds.
Salary and Benefits

In compliance with applicable pay‑transparency laws, the expected salary range for this position is $91,000–$160,000 per year, depending on experience and location. This role is also eligible for an annual performance bonus and may include equity or incentive compensation. Additional benefits include ESOP participation, a 401(k) plan, flexible work schedules, tuition reimbursement, a co‑sponsored health plan, paid leave, and more.
