Mechanical Design Engineer - Oklahoma City, OK
The opportunity
Our client, an established Oklahoma City manufacturer of engineered equipment for the energy and industrial markets, is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer for a direct-hire, on-site role. You will take equipment from concept through production release, working closely with manufacturing, fabrication and field teams to build designs that are reliable, serviceable and cost-effective to produce.
This is a hands-on engineering seat with real ownership: your drawings go to the shop floor, and you will see your designs built and running.
Key responsibilities
- Design mechanical components, assemblies and skid-mounted equipment packages from concept through production release.
- Build 3D models and produce detailed 2D fabrication and assembly drawings with proper GD&T, weld callouts and bills of materials.
- Perform engineering calculations for structural members, piping, mounting, lifting and thermal loads; run FEA where needed.
- Select and specify purchased components such as engines, pumps, couplings, hydraulics, heat exchangers and fasteners.
- Support fabrication, welding and assembly teams on the floor, resolving build issues and dispositioning nonconformances.
- Manage engineering change orders, revision control and design documentation in the company's PLM/ERP system.
- Drive design improvements for cost, manufacturability, serviceability and safety based on shop and field feedback.
- Work with sales, project management and customers to translate requirements into custom engineered solutions.
- Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, API, OSHA).
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related engineering discipline).
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor or similar) and producing production-ready drawings.
- Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, weldment design and common fabrication processes.
- Solid grasp of engineering fundamentals: statics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
- Comfortable splitting time between the desk and the shop floor.
- Clear written and verbal communication with technicians, fabricators and customers.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience designing engine-driven, power generation, compression, pumping or other heavy industrial equipment.
- Background with skid, frame or enclosure design and packaging of rotating equipment.
- Hydraulic, pneumatic or piping system design experience.
- FEA experience (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS or similar).
- Familiarity with ERP/PLM systems and engineering change control.
- EIT or PE license.
