Job summary

Thunderbird Molding is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design, test, and optimize mechanical systems for diverse industries. You will develop prototypes, run simulations, and document results to support robust, cost-effective solutions.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, expertise in SolidWorks, CAD/CAM, and 3D modeling, and strong collaboration with clients and production teams. Onsite work in New Albany, MS is expected.

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Overview

The Mechanical Design Engineer designs, develops and test mechanical systems and components, ensuring functionality, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.

Mechanical Design Engineer Essential Functions

• Plan, design, and refine mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for various industries such as automotive, defense and commercial.
• Develop prototypes, conduct simulations, and perform experiments to validate designs and ensure performance, safety, and reliability.
• Work closely with clients, engineers, and manufacturing teams to meet project specifications and resolve technical challenges.
• Prepare detailed technical drawings, specifications, and reports, including design iterations and test results
• Provide installation guidance, support product lifecycle management (PLM), and ensure designs comply with industry standards and regulations. Assist with new product manufacturing processes, product drawings, inspection control plans, 1st article submission, process capability analysis.
• Drive and manage Kaizen events.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw rapid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret mathematical and graphical data.
• Work with abstract and variables to draw conclusions.
• Ability to handle multiple variables at once to aid in problem solving.

Mechanical Design Engineer Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Expertise in SolidWorks, CAD, CAM, and 3D modeling software, along with knowledge of engineering and manufacturing technologies.
