Job summary

Bascom Hunter in Greenfield, IN is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design, develop, and manage turbomachinery, compressors, electric motors, generators, and marine propulsion for Aerospace & Defense applications.

This in-person role focuses on cross-disciplinary collaboration with mechanical, aero, electrical, and systems teams to deliver high-performance systems that meet demanding requirements, from concept through delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience, preferably in Aerospace/Defense.
  • Experience managing engineering projects from concept through delivery.
  • Strong knowledge in thermal systems, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, or mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods such as casting, forging, welding, CNC machining, EDM, and additive manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, ANSYS, or equivalent engineering tools.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop technical solutions and integrated systems.
  • Perform design, analysis, system integration, and validation testing for power and propulsion systems.
  • Develop technical specifications, system requirements, and design documentation.
  • Coordinate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to track progress and communicate status.
  • Support prototype fabrication, instrumentation, testing, and qualification activities.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain adherence to industry regulations and company quality processes.

Bascom Hunter is seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team. This in-person role will focus on the design, development, and management of turbomachinery, compressors, electric motors, generators and marine propulsion for Aerospace & Defense applications. The Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performance systems that meet demanding operational and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical,aero,electrical, and systems engineers, to develop technical solutions and integrated systems.
  • Perform design,analysis, system integration, and validation testing forpowerand propulsionsystemsproducts, includingturbomachinery,compressors,generators,marine outboard engines,motors,and propulsors.
  • Develop technical specifications, system requirements, and design documentationin accordance withAerospace & Defense standards.
  • Coordinate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to track progress, resolve issues, and communicate project status.
  • Support prototype fabrication,instrumentation,testing, and qualification activities.
  • Identifytechnical risks and develop mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain strict adherence to industry regulations, military standards, and company quality processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience, preferably in Aerospace&DefenseIndustry.
  • Experience managing engineering projects from concept through delivery.
  • Strong technical knowledge in thermal systems, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, or mechanical systems design.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods,such as casting, forging, stamping, welding, CNC machining, EDM, andadditive manufacturing
  • Proficiencyin engineering tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, or equivalent.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • U.S. Citizenshiprequired(due to DoD contract requirements).
  • Collaborative mindset with focus on team-level technical excellence
  • Clear and concise technical communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ANSYS FEA
  • Experience with military standards (MIL-STD), AS9100 quality systems, and environmental qualification testing.
  • Familiarity with motor integration, power systems, or electronic packaging
