Job description

Job Title: Product Design Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer

Duration: 6 months

(Remote – Candidate is comfortable working from 9 AM to 5 PM PST in California)

Responsibilities:

• Provide design support for iPad products including:
• Using 2D and 3D CAD to communicate design intent, inspection requirements, and test methods.
• Developing deep technical knowledge in areas outside your realm of expertise to understand other teams’ design constraints and craft creative solutions to technical problems.
• Collaborating with outside vendors and internal manufacturing experts to optimize designs for function, aesthetic, and manufacturability.
• Skills exercised regularly: tolerance and stress analysis, electro-mechanical integration, design for high volume manufacturability and assembly, prototyping, failure analysis, simple fixture design, metrology, statistical process control.

Key Qualifications:

• Design intelligence: mechanical intuition, creative problem solving, spatial reasoning, attention to detail.
• Engineering fundamentals: statics, strength of materials, material science, statistics.
• Excellent communication skills: written, visual, and verbal. Ability to clearly convey design ideas and contribute to brainstorms.
• Experience in the design cycle from concept through manufacturing is a plus.
• Experience designing mechanical components for mass production is a plus - specifically molded, formed, and machined parts.

Minimum Requirements:

• Strong experience with 3+ years of mechanical design industry experience.
• Strong expertise in 3D CAD, GD&T, and designing mechanical components for mass production.
• Significant prior experience with Siemens combine NX.

Education: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
