Job summary

Rondo Energy seeks a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to advance high-temperature systems at our Alameda HQ. You will design components and assemblies for temperatures up to 1500°C, and drive rapid prototyping to validate concepts quickly.

You will perform FEA and 1D thermal analyses, apply GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups, integrate high‑temperature sensors, and lead design reviews with cross‑functional teams. This on‑site role includes equity and a strong SF Bay Area salary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 3–5 years of mechanical design experience from concept through production.
• Proficiency in FEA and 1D thermal analysis; CFD a plus.
• Strong fundamentals in GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
• Design experience with high-temperature materials and thermal‑mechanical systems.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

What You’ll Do (responsibilities include but are not limited to):

• Design components, assemblies, and systems — including ceramic, refractory, steel, and insulation parts — that are cycled and maintained at high temperatures up to 1500°C
• Conduct FEA and 1D thermal and fluid-flow analysis to confirm mechanical performance and correlate against test data; contribute to FMEA activities to identify and mitigate failure risks
• Drive rapid prototyping and fast build-test-learn iteration cycles to quickly validate designs and accelerate maturity
• Apply GD&T principles and tolerance stack-up analysis to critical features
• Specify and mechanically integrate high-temperature measurement devices and other sensors into the assembly — including mounting, thermal/electrical isolation, and cable routing — in collaboration with electrical and controls engineers
• Utilize CAD and PLM software (SolidWorks preferred) for design, documentation, and configuration control
• Formulate subsystem requirements and prepare documentation for external suppliers and stakeholders
• Lead and participate in design reviews, schedule estimation, and progress reporting to cross-functional teams

What You’ll Bring:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• 3–5 years of mechanical design engineering experience, taking designs from concept through production
• Proficiency in FEA and 1D thermal analysis; CFD experience a plus
• Strong fundamentals in GD&T and tolerance stack-ups
• Design experience with high-temperature materials and thermal-mechanical systems strongly preferred
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• Hands-on instrumentation, cable/harness design experience

This role is required to be on-site at our Alameda Headquarters with up to 10% travel to project sites. The estimated annual salary range for this role in the San Francisco Bay Area is $140,000 - $160,000 and it would be eligible for Rondo’s excellent benefits, plus additional compensation in the form of equity. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates’ diverse sets of skill levels and experience.
