General Motors seeks a Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer (MDAE) to lead the electronic controller packaging and mechanical design, ensuring thermal validity and durability across vehicle platforms. You will guide suppliers and GM teams, review drawings, and drive validation activities.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, hands-on controller experience, and 2+ years in the automotive field with strong GD&T and CAD skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or qualified experience in electronic controller development.
  • Hands on electronic controller experience.
  • GD&T and CAD software proficiency.
  • Validation experience in electronics hardware verification/validation processes.
  • 2+ years automotive experience.
  • Strong understanding of electronics design principles.
  • Analytical ability to solve complex problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define electronic controller size, shape and orientation for vehicle platforms.
  • Review bracket design and controller-to-bracket installation.
  • Support controller fastener development for installation.
  • Use modeling tools to define thermal requirements.
  • Define controller package requirements in specifications.
  • Review and release controller validation test plans and results with suppliers and GM DRE.
  • Troubleshoot validation failures and develop solutions with GM and supplier teams.
  • Approve supplier manufacturing processes and line equipment.
  • Approve connector selection and validation results.
  • Review shipping and handling requirements.

The MDAE provides technical guidance to the electronic controller supplier for thermal and mechanical design, as well as the validation test plan and flow to ensure alignment with the controller environmental and durability requirements.
