Job summary

A national engineering company is seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Lead for Data Center projects in Phoenix, AZ. The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10+ years of experience in Electrical and Mechanical commissioning, and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Responsibilities include leading multiple commissioning projects, ensuring adherence to commissioning standards, and interfacing with clients and contractors. Job description

Overview

Mechanical Commissioning Lead – Data Centers – Phoenix, AZ. Our client is an engineering design and commissioning company with national footprint, specializing in MEP critical facilities design. They provide design, commissioning, consulting and management for Enterprise, Colocation and Hyperscale environments, with a focus on reliability, energy efficiency, sustainable design and LEED expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple commissioning projects, consisting of a full team of commissioning engineers and commissioning project managers on a wide range of data center commissioning projects.
  • Act as a technical resource for commissioning teams and oversee the technical aspects of projects; will not manage staff at the onset.
  • Ensure commissioning standards are followed for equipment pre-start-up and start-up procedures; development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and methods of procedures (MOPs); and comprehensive commissioning documentation.
  • Ensure the overall commissioning process adheres to high standards:
    • Commissioning test procedures and reports
    • Commissioning logs, equipment checklists, and other tools to track projects
    • Comprehensive reports with recommendations for optimizing building operations, functional checklists, list of deficiencies, equipment operation and maintenance manuals
  • Ensure the team follows commissioning standards: review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and pertinent documentation; integrated system testing; load bank testing; compilation of testing procedure results; functional tests for building MEP systems (fire alarm/control, HVAC, chillers, CRACs, electrical distribution, UPS, standby generators, emergency lighting); system assembly; commissioning plan preparation; adherence to QC processes.
  • Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors and owners’ agents as needed.
  • Execute project assignments; interface with project contractors, vendors, testing technicians; interact with engineering and design teams.
  • Verify commissioning results of test reports and assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment; field experience with Power Quality Analyzers, Power Disturbance Analyzers, data loggers and related testing equipment.
Qualifications
  • 5 to 10+ years of experience in the Electrical / Mechanical Commissioning field
  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is a plus
  • Experience in A/E in complex facilities or mission-critical projects
  • Previous Data Center / Mission Critical experience required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; heavy writing, documentation and client interaction
  • Experience with Level 1-5 commissioning
  • Experience managing commissioning teams and developing plans for large-scale projects
  • Experience with IEEE / ASHRAE procedures and protocols a plus
  • Basic knowledge of systems design for various projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
  • Military experience with Electrical/Mechanical roles is a plus
  • Willingness to travel 50–70% (not long periods; more frequent short trips); if based near a major data center, travel may be closer to 10–20%
  • Must live near a major airport
