NV5 is currently seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join our Midwest team and service our clients locally in the Midwest and nationally as client and project needs dictate. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and well-versed in commissioning, facility engineering, construction, and operations. The markets served include education, healthcare, data centers, commercial, government, and transportation. Duties and responsibilities related to this position are listed below.

Mission Critical Mechanical Lead Commissioning Authority: Lead a team of qualified commissioning technicians and mechanics in the validation of HVAC/mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

1. Responsible for the technical delivery both as a project lead and technical resource of commissioning, retro-commissioning, and energy engineering projects with minimal supervision while completing assignments that require independent judgment and evaluation.
2. Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, and other project team members.
3. Develop and maintain client relationships. Develop relationships on projects that generate goodwill with our existing clients and collaborate with Group Leaders and management to extend these relationships.
4. Develop and manage project-specific commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules from pre-startup to test-adjust-balance field work.
5. Perform technical reviews of design documents and submittals related to HVAC, plumbing, and Building Automation and Control Systems.
6. Develop pre-functional checklists and functional performance test procedures.
7. Perform functional performance tests on HVAC, Plumbing, and Controls systems, including stand-alone controls and integrated building automation systems.
8. Assist in project management and coordination on small to medium projects to meet client expectations for technical excellence, budget, and schedule.
9. Conduct daily standups, develop 3-week look-ahead schedules, and manage project-specific resource logistics.
10. Lead and organize mechanical testing teams on mission-critical projects, ensuring availability of necessary resources such as meters and test equipment.
11. Facilitate resolution of issues arising from testing failures.

Qualifications

1. Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in building systems commissioning.
2. Mechanical Engineering Degree, Mechanical Engineering Technology Degree, or equivalent military or commercial experience (e.g., journeyman pipefitter foreman).
3. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
4. Experience diagnosing and solving construction and operational problems.
5. Ability to work as part of a team, think creatively, and problem-solve.
6. Ability to obtain a PE license.
7. Working knowledge of temperature control systems and system integrators.
8. Willingness to travel 50%+ as project needs dictate.
9. Experience as a mechanical/HVAC service technician or BMS controls technician with 5 years of experience.
