Job summary

MSS Steel Tubes is seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Civil/Structural Engineer with experience in steel structures to support technical analysis and the preparation of manufacturing dossiers for steel fabrication. You will analyze customer drawings, review structural details, and prepare technical dossiers including BOMs, cutting lists, and assembly information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural Engineering or related field.
• Experience with steel structures, fabrication, metalworking or industrial manufacturing.
• Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and fabrication drawings.
• Knowledge of steel profiles, tubes, plates, welded assemblies and bolted connections.
• Understanding fabrication processes (cutting, drilling, bending, welding, assembly, finishing).
• Strong BOM preparation, material take-off and technical documentation skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to identify risks before production.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer or Civil / Structural Engineer with experience in steel structures to support the technical analysis and preparation of manufacturing dossiers for steel fabrication.

Main Responsibilities

• Analyse customer drawings, structural steel drawings and technical specifications.
• Prepare technical dossiers for fabrication, including production documentation, material lists, cutting lists and assembly information.
• Review steel structure details, welded joints, bolted connections and fabrication requirements.
• Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models and project specifications.
• Identify missing information, technical inconsistencies or potential fabrication issues before production starts.
• Coordinate with customers, engineering teams and production to clarify technical requirements.
• Support the preparation of Bills of Materials — BOM.
• Support nesting, cutting, drilling, welding and assembly preparation.
• Ensure that manufacturing documentation is clear, complete and suitable for shop-floor execution.
• Support production teams during fabrication by clarifying drawings and technical requirements.
• Assist with technical change control and revision management.
• Review tolerances, material grades, profiles, tubes, plates and structural components.
• Support continuous improvement in technical preparation, production flow and reduction of rework.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
• Experience in steel structures, steel fabrication, metalworking or industrial manufacturing.
• Strong ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and fabrication drawings.
• Knowledge of steel profiles, tubes, plates, welded assemblies and bolted connections.
• Understanding of fabrication processes such as cutting, drilling, bending, welding, assembly and finishing.
• Good knowledge of BOM preparation, material take-off and technical documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify technical risks before production.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with structural steel codes and standards used in the USA, such as AISC and AWS D1.1.
• Experience with CAD software, 3D modelling or steel detailing software.
• Familiarity with Tekla Structures, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Advance Steel or similar tools.
• Experience preparing shop drawings, fabrication packages or manufacturing dossiers.
• Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production routing would be an advantage.
• Previous experience in tube steel manufacturing, poles, towers, frames, platforms or similar steel structures.
