Overview

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a self-driven candidate with the ability to obtain Secret clearance to join the Engineering Services Directorate as a Mechanical CAD Designer/Drafter II, working on United States Nuclear Submarine Non-Propulsion Electronic System (NPES) projects in Norwich, CT.

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct ship checks on SSN 688/688I Class, SEAWOLF Class, VIRGINIA Class, and OHIO Class (SSBN/SSGN) Class submarines.
  2. Research submarine construction drawings using the Advanced Technical Information Support (ATIS) System.
  3. Create 3D solid models to optimize mechanical designs.
  4. Develop 2D Installation & Arrangement drawings in accordance with Military Specifications.
  5. Utilize Standard Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) as defined by ASME Y14.5.
  6. Develop Lists of Material (LOM).
  7. Interpret Government Furnished Information (GFI) to meet design requirements.
  8. Supervise, aid, or mentor Designer/Drafter I coworkers.

Qualifications

  1. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance.
  2. U.S. Citizenship required.
  3. High School Diploma or GED, with Technical School CAD Certificate or an A.S./B.S. Degree in Drafting, CAD Design, or Engineering.
  4. Physically capable of conducting ship checks on submarines, including working in confined spaces and climbing ladders.
  5. 3-4 years experience creating 2D and 3D drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, or SOLIDWORKS).
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF tools.
  7. Excellent communication skills and ability to mentor junior staff.

Additional Information

Salary range: USD $49,600 - $82,800 per year. Benefits include healthcare, paid leave, retirement plans, insurance, and training.
