Job summary

Swagelok Northern California is seeking a Mechanical Assembly Technician to perform standard mechanical assembly, inspections, and basic measurements per work instructions and drawings. You’ll work with a team to ensure on-time production while maintaining safety and quality.

As you gain proficiency, responsibilities expand to more complex assemblies, testing, troubleshooting, and mentoring less experienced technicians, within a continuous improvement environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of one year in mechanical assembly or equivalent.
  • Ability to read instructions and assembly drawings with guidance.
  • Basic math and English to complete documentation.

Mechanical Assembly Technician

Department: Assembly Services

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Swagelok Northern California

Reporting To: Operations Manager

Compensation: $23.88 - $35.83 / hour

The Mechanical Assembly Technician is responsible for performing standard mechanical assembly tasks, inspections, and basic measurements in accordance with work instructions, engineering drawings, and company quality standards. Working with minimal guidance, this role builds accurate, conforming assemblies while beginning to sequence own tasks and identify routine issues. The Mechanical Assembly Technician collaborates closely with teammates and supervisors to support on-time, quality production, and contributes to a safe, efficient, and continuously improving production environment.

Successful individuals in this role demonstrate mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and reliable follow-through on standard work. As proficiency increases, the position expands in scope to include more complex assemblies, pressure/hydrostatic testing, equipment troubleshooting, and mentoring of less experienced technicians.

Key Responsibilities
Assembly Execution & Quality
  • Perform standard mechanical assembly tasks with minimal guidance, following work instructions, engineering drawings, and Swagelok Certified Process (CP) requirements.
  • Sequence own tasks and identify simple issues during the assembly process.
  • Conduct basic inspections and measurements to confirm part and assembly conformity.
  • Apply standard work and self-checks for accuracy, and follow quality documentation reliably.
Tools & Equipment
  • Demonstrate practical mechanical aptitude and correct tool usage, including torque tools and fixturing.
  • Use tools correctly and perform simple maintenance or adjustments as needed.
Blueprints, Documentation & Production Systems
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, work instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs) with growing accuracy.
  • Enter accurate production information into production or inventory systems with minimal assistance.
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
  • Complete housekeeping duties as assigned to maintain an efficient, accurate, and tidy facility.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles daily and identify minor process inefficiencies; maintain a tidy workspace and identify potential hazards.
  • Identify and participate in continual process improvements.

  • Manage daily workload independently and adjust when minor delays occur.
  • Achieve Quality Objectives of Ship to Promise, Order Accuracy, and Inventory Accuracy.

Education & Work Experience

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in mechanical assembly, manufacturing, or production environment, or equivalent education/training
  • Basic ability to read and interpret work instructions and assembly drawings, with guidance
  • Ability to safely operate basic hand tools
  • Basic math and English skills sufficient to read work instructions and complete production documentation

Preferred:

  • Certification for assemblies
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in mechanical assembly within a manufacturing or production environment
  • Experience reading and interpreting assembly drawings, work instructions, blueprints, and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and precision measuring instruments
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or ISO-controlled environment
  • Hydrostatic/pressure testing exposure
  • Basic understanding of tube bending
  • eDrawing use
