Job summary

Convergix Automation Solutions seeks a Mechanical Assembly Lead to steer the mechanical build of automation systems from concept through commissioning. The Role

As aMechanical Assembly Lead, you will lead the mechanical build of Convergix’s automation systems from concept through commissioning. Working closely with Engineering and the greater Convergix team, you will plan assembly sequencing, review designs for manufacturability, and lead the build of complete machine mechanical systems — including fixtures, tooling, end effectors, and cell layouts — in a collaborative environment. You will coach and mentor Mechanical Assembly Technicians and Apprentices, lead root-cause resolution on assembly issues and non-conformances, and perform onsite troubleshooting, adjustment, and service work for Convergix’s automation systems. As the subject matter expert, you will bridge Production and Engineering — converting field findings into corrective design input — and offer cost reduction and improvement suggestions around the company’s internal standards. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the charge on a safe work environment. Coach and mentor your team on safe work practices.
• Lead the assembly of complete machine mechanical builds, planning sequencing across the team to maximize efficiency and minimize rework
• Interpret complex, multi-sheet assembly drawings, BOM structures, and GD&T callouts; review designs for manufacturability and flag discrepancies before they impact the build
• Support commissioning with functional verification of pneumatic, linear motion, and machine guarding systems, including interlock defeat testing, signing off before machine power-up
• Lead dimensional inspection sign-off on completed assemblies and drive root-cause analysis and corrective action on non-conformances, escalating recurring trends to Engineering
• Debug entire machine with engineering as necessary, bridging Production and Engineering on assembly and design issues starting in the design process through to SAT.
• Coach and mentor Mechanical Assembly Technicians and Apprentices on craft skills, fastening/torque standards, and safe work practices; sign off LOTO verification on critical equipment handoffs
• Install and service machines when needed
• Must be able to travel globally as per project requirements
• Facilitate team huddles and coordinate communication between mechanical and electrical teams; document key decisions for shift handovers
• Manage team schedule and coordinate with other leads to resolve conflicts, adjusting work sequence as needed to protect delivery milestones; use the Skills Matrix to set development targets and track team skill progression
• Perform any additional reasonable tasks as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Licensed millwright or a technician/technologist/engineer with a penchant for hands-on work, with demonstrated ability to lead or mentor other assemblers.
• Proven, independent proficiency in assembly of complex, multi-level mechanical systems, including planning and leading complete machine mechanical builds
• Expert in pneumatic design, commissioning, and troubleshooting of mechanical devices, with working knowledge of linear motion and actuation systems
• Mechanical knowledge and experience (design, tooling, fixtures, GD&T, experience with a machine builder, etc.), including reviewing drawings and designs for manufacturability
• 7+ years of experience in machine building, including experience coaching or leading junior technicians and apprentices
• Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of non-conformance (NCR) root-cause and corrective-action processes
• Must be knowledgeable in the proper use and selection of tools and equipment, and in LOTO and machine guarding verification requirements
• Reliable transportation and an ability to travel; A Mechanical Assembly Lead at Convergix should have the ability to travel globally.
• A team player who also possesses the drive and responsibility to work autonomously, and to lead and coach others, when required.
• Proficiencyin fabrication including welding and machining.
• Exposure to robotic applications.
• Prior experience formally training, mentoring, or supervising other technicians.
• Works well with a variety of different people from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including experience facilitating team meetings or huddles.

• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
• Occasionally lifts or move up to 40 pounds.
