Job summary

ACS Group is seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembly Specialist for the Temperature Control Unit (TCU) Department in New Berlin, WI. The role focuses on assembling customized mechanical builds to print and sales order requirements, using interpretation of drawings and BOMs.

You will work with SOPs and quality logs, ensure adherence to standards, and provide on-the-job training while performing occasional welding and fabrication as needed.

Mechanical Assembly Specialist – TCU Department

ACS Group is a privately held company that designs and manufactures comprehensive lines of auxiliary products for the plastics processing industry. ACS Group maintains an expansive product line, which includes size reduction equipment (granulators and shredders), material conveying equipment, metering and blending devices, heat exchangers (mold temperature control units and chillers), drying systems, and presses. These products are marketed under such recognizable brand names as AEC, Sterling, Cumberland, Wabash and Carver.

Manufacturing facilities are located in New Berlin, Wisconsin and Wabash, Indiana with a third facility located Suzhou,China to handle the needs of the Asian market.

We are currently looking for a Special Assembly Technician for our Temperature Control Unit (TCU) Department. The Special Assembly Technician is responsible for specialized and highly unique mechanical builds or operations to print and sales order, throughout the manufacturing process.

A successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Interpret engineering drawings, assembly prints, BOMs, piping layouts, wiring diagrams, and work instructions to complete custom mechanical builds.
  • Assemble specialized and highly customized Temperature Control Units to print and sales order requirements.
  • Work independently with limited supervision on highly customized builds and use sound judgment when engineering documentation, drawings, or BOMs do not fully define assembly requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies, omissions, dimensional conflicts, or missing materials required for proper machine function and communicate findings to Engineering and supervision.
  • Make necessary adjustments to meet product specifications; consult the supervisor and Engineering before implementing any changes.
  • Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs), position overview, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Ensure established quality standards are adhered to throughout the assembly process.
  • Visually inspect and reject parts outside written specifications.
  • Operate machinery, equipment, hand tools, power tools, and computer terminals.
  • Complete daily production records, quality logs, and labor cards.
  • Write up tickets to order materials from inventory when quantities fall below established levels.
  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to new employees.
  • Perform occasional welding and fabrication work.
  • Follow instructions and assignments from supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A qualified candidate will be proactive and possess these requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of assembly experience, preferably involving industrial equipment or custom machinery.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyze assembly issues, develop practical solutions, and make sound decisions while maintaining product quality and safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision on highly customized equipment builds requiring problem-solving and sound judgment.
  • Ability to interpret complex mechanical drawings, assembly prints, BOMs, piping layouts, and wiring diagrams. Must be able to identify discrepancies, omissions, dimensional conflicts, and manufacturability concerns and work with Engineering to resolve issues.
  • Experience assembling custom, engineered-to-order equipment where each build may differ from previous units.
  • Ability to perform custom layout work, accurately determine hole locations, component placement, and fabrication requirements when detailed drawings are incomplete or unavailable.
  • Ability to perform field wiring.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and assembly equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, including overall accuracy, completeness of assignments, and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Must be safety-minded and perform work safely while following all company safety procedures and policies.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to accurately read and use tape measures, rulers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and productivity expectations.
  • Ability to regularly lift, position, align, and assemble large machine components. Position requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling, and use of hand and power tools throughout the workday.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS

This position works in a manufacturing environment around moving machinery, tools, and production equipment. The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and use of hands and arms throughout the shift. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and components up to 50 pounds, with heavier items moved using appropriate lifting or material handling equipment. Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to identify detail. Required personal protective equipment may include safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety footwear. The employee is expected to follow all safety procedures and maintain awareness of surrounding equipment, materials, and shop activity.
