Required: 2-year technical degree and/or apprenticeship, 3–5 years in electro-mechanical assembly, ability to read drawings and measuring instruments, CAD/CAM familiarity, and valid OSHA forklift certification.

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree and/or apprenticeship.
  • 3–5 years of electro-mechanical assembly experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings/blueprints.
  • Ability to read measuring instruments (tape, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauges).
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM and basic computer literacy.

Job description

Electro-Mechanical Assembler -- 1st Shift

Metals USA -- Gregor Technologies Division is seeking an ELECTRO - MECHANICAL ASSEMBLER in Torrington, CT. Metals USA is a solid, growth-oriented aluminum/stainless steel distribution center servicing the defense, aerospace, and fabrication industries.

Responsibilities:
  • Reads, interprets, and follows basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, and other written instructions to accurately assemble product.
  • Utilizes handheld tools such as a hand-held screw and drill gun.
  • Assembles parts using automatic wire cutter, crimping or grinding machines.
  • Assembles motors, pumps or compressors using press fixtures, pneumatic guns or hand tools.
  • Performs end-of-line tests using computer-based equipment.
  • Performs spot checks of products to ensure adherence to approved quality standards.
Certifications/Licenses:
  • Valid OSHA Forklift certification
Physical Demands:

Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)

  • Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
  • Regularly performs repetitive tasks
  • Physical dexterity to put parts together
  • Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance
Other Physical Requirements:

Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Steel-toed boots
  • Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse
  • Protective eyewear
  • Hand protection
  • Arm guards/sleeves
  • Visual Acuity requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program
Work Environment:

May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.

  • Working inside of the warehouse
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
  • Vibration
  • Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
  • Day and night shifts
  • Two-year technical degree and/or apprenticeship
  • 3 -- 5 years of electro-mechanical assembly; should have prior wire installation experience
  • Must have mechanical & mathematical aptitude
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, documents and blueprints.
  • Ability to read measuring instruments such as measuring tapes, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and gauges
  • Computer Literacy with understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM
