Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Check components against BOM before assembly.
  • Assemble production equipment per customer specifications.
  • Communicate with Team Leader on product/process improvements.
  • Report changes to prints due to design errors and manufacturing improvements.
  • Complete daily time sheets.
  • Participate in electrical assembly as required.
  • Travel infrequently to customer sites to install/ troubleshoot.
  • Assist Team Leader with training of Mechanical Trainees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Mechanical Assembly Team Lead
Functional Area: Manufacturing
Overview:

The essential job function is performing the assembly and disassembly of production machinery. This includes modifying existing customer products and building new products to customer specifications.

Education:

Associate’s degree from a trade school, community college or equivalent experience.

Experience and Skills:
  • 5+ years of capital equipment experience.
  • Ability and knowledge to use hand and power tools, able to use large assembly drawings, familiar with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Thorough understanding of assembly processes to include pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical assembly, torque setting equipment, alignment levels and lasers. Basic understanding of manufacturing equipment to include lathes, mills, surface grinders, polishers, and welding equipment. Should have above average experience with use of fork trucks and overhead cranes.
  • Physical - must be able to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, bend to the floor and lift up to 60 pounds without difficulty. Operate large machines and physical exposure from moving equipment and machine parts, periodically laying prone under machinery or on knees for completion of plumbing and mechanical tasks. Some ladder climbing. Visual acuity for reading machine dial gauges, electrical diagrams, blueprints and precision measuring instruments important. Auditory acuity to monitor machine sound changes in order to diagnose and remedy equipment problems. Skin subject to oil exposure.
  • Mental - subject to frequent overtime requirements, changes in job duties and assignments (often without much notice), constant or frequent deadline pressures. Ability to consider alternatives and make decisions. Capability of mastering shop floor computer terminals and data recording.
Job Functions:
  • Prior to assembly, check components against bill of materials (BOM) to assure all parts are accounted for.
  • Assembles production equipment according to customer specifications through assembly of parts and components outlined in the specifications.
  • Communicates with Team Leader to provide information regarding product or process improvement. Works with Team Leader to determine requirements necessary to complete the assembly process according to customer specifications.
  • Communicates with Team Leader to report changes necessary to prints as a result of design errors and manufacturing improvements.
  • Completes daily time sheets to assure that the appropriate time is charged to the proper job.
  • Participates in Electrical assembly as required.
  • Travels infrequently to customer sites to install production equipment or assist with trouble shooting.
  • Continually focused on role as a team member, in terms of communication, work standards, et.al.
  • Conducts trial runs for engineering and sales, making necessary changes to product as a result of trial run.
  • Assists Team Leader with training and direction of Mechanical Trainees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Incumbent receives moderate degree of supervision. Minimal supervision is required once incumbent is fully trained; supervision monitored by the team.
  • Exposed to minimal degree of confidential information (e.g. engineering prints).
  • Interfaces with assembly, machine shop, engineering, and the sales organization.
  • Communicates daily with team associates, engineering and manufacturing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
