Position Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor and/or Lead Maintenance Technician,the Wastewater Mechanicperforms, plans, and organizes the maintenance of wastewater facilitiesand associated systemsincluding, but not limited to, liquids treatment, solids handling, chemical systems, odor control,andlift stations.The Wastewater Mechanic performsa variety of work assignments to ensure acceptable asset conditionandwater quality and health and safety standards are met or exceeded.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs predictive, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance for facility assets. Work may also include rough carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding duties as required.
• Trains,leadsand mentors staff under the direction of supervisory staff. Leads by example. Acts as a positive role model forfacilityemployees.Encourages an environment of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Teamwork.
• Creates and manages service requests and work orders for needed repairs.
• Evaluates equipment condition and performance by observation and using inspection tools.
• Prepareslogs and records in both written and electronic form with accuracy and completeness.
• Follows job plans and recommends revisions to job plans to ensure safe and consistent work practices.
• Observes safety policies and guidelines as required by State statutes andas prescribed byNTMWD.
• Monitorsthe facility for any breaches of security and alertappropriate lawenforcement agencies and/or supervisors, asappropriate forthe situation.
• Monitors systems and assets during emergencies and scheduled shutdowns. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and reports problems. Responds to emergencies. Schedules and coordinates responses, repairs, clean-up, and remediation as directed.
• Maintains facility and work area housekeeping.
• Receives shipments, monitors unloading processes, checks shipment documents for accuracy, and ensures documents aresubmittedtoappropriate personnel.
• Complies withapplicable policies and procedures.
• Assumesthe responsibilities of direct supervisor(s) and subordinates asrequired.
• Performsother duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:

• Possess a high school diploma or GED. An associate degree or trade certification is preferred.
• Possesstwo(2) years of experience in industrial maintenance or a suitable combination of directly relevant education and experience, asdeterminedby NTMWD.
• Preference is to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewateror WaterTreatmentor Collectionor DistributionSystemOperator's License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Possessgeneralknowledge of maintenance and reliability practices and principles and awareness of wastewater assets and their operation.Possess the ability to troubleshoot equipment typically used in wastewater operations.
• Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with supervisors, peers, andsubordinates..
• Maintainsbasic computer skills and become proficient at using a computerized maintenance management system to perform major responsibilities.

Environmental and Physical Working Conditions

Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.

The duties and responsibilities aregenerally performedin a wastewater treatment environment. The position involves sitting (up to 6 hours per day), frequent standing, frequent walking,light to heavy lifting (up to 100lbs.), light carrying, frequent bending and reaching, keyboarding, and telephone operation. It often requires an irregular work schedule and overtime hours. Specific physical conditions require frequent work with chemicals, tools, machinery, moving mechanical parts, etc.

The duties and responsibilities are performed both indoors and outdoors. Moderate to heavy exposure to sun, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, biological hazards, rain, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials and chemicals, machinery, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and water hazards are common. Performs and reviews work at locations that involve hazardous environments requiring the physical ability to wear and work using personal protective equipment (PPE) thatmeet or exceed guidelines such asestablishedby OSHA which may result insome physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, odors,chemicalsand noise. The position may require work in confined spaces, on ladders and rooftops, and in adverse weather conditions withappropriate training.
