Silgan Containers is seeking a Mechanic Trainee / Production Operator in Fort Dodge, IA to learn manufacturing equipment and advance to Mechanic.

Starting pay is $28.24/hour with on-the-job training; pay increases to $32.46/hour after completing the Mechanic training program, with potential advancement in as little as six months. This on-the-job program offers growth, safety, and long-term career opportunities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Learn to set up, start up, operate, and monitor manufacturing equipment.
• Assist with routine maintenance on assigned machines under supervision.
• Learn proper machine changeover procedures.
• Assist with equipment shutdown and startup procedures.
• Participate in equipment overhaul and maintenance activities.
• Develop knowledge of mechanical tools, equipment, and processes.
• Learn to identify and report equipment problems or unusual conditions.
• Complete maintenance and production documentation accurately.
• Learn and follow safe work practices, including Lockout/Tagout, PPE, working at heights, confined-space procedures, and hazardous-material handling.
• Operate or learn to operate forklifts and other lifting equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

What You’ll Learn & Do

As a Mechanic Trainee / Production Operator, you’ll gain hands‑on experience with manufacturing equipment while learning from experienced team members.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

• Learn toset up, start up, operate, and monitor manufacturing equipment
• Assist with routine maintenance on assigned machines under supervision
• Learn proper machinechangeover procedures
• Assist with equipment shutdown and startup procedures
• Participate in equipment overhaul and maintenance activities
• Develop your knowledge of mechanical tools, equipment, and manufacturing processes
• Learn to identify and report equipment problems or unusual conditions
• Complete maintenance and production documentation accurately

• Demonstrate adequate hand‑eye coordination
• Distinguish minor variations in materials and machine components
• Safely handle tools and equipment as required
