Position Summary
Responsible for weld quality, welder expertise, and performance, including screening, qualifying, assessing, and training welders, and supporting the Quality Assurance Manager in developing and enforcing weld standards and procedures.
Essential Functions And Major Responsibilities

- Screen, qualify, assess, and train welders.
- Perform scheduled welder skill assessments and categorize skill levels.
- Maintain positive, inclusive work environment.
- Validate assessment results and maintain records.
- Provide performance feedback to management.
- Identify trends in weld inspection metrics and guide training.
- Develop and implement changes to weld procedures and qualifications.
- Research and adopt welding advancements.
- Oversee and evaluate welding equipment maintenance.
Job Scope
Operate with sound judgment and independence, influence protocols, and work towards production goals under the guidance of the Weld Engineering Manager and Sr. Production Manager.
Supervisory Responsibility
No direct reports, but must act independently and as a key team member.
Interpersonal Contacts
Maintain professional relationships, influence decisions respectfully, both internally and externally.
Knowledge Skills And Abilities
- Aluminum welding knowledge (GTAW, GMAW).
- Strong communication skills.
- Strategic planning and research skills.
- Organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Knowledge of safety, budgeting, and operational metrics.
- Leadership and conflict resolution skills.
Education And/Or Experience
- AA degree or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years in heavy industrial/fabrication environment.
- 3+ years supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of production procedures, regulations, machinery.
Physical Demands
Work in a shipyard environment, including climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working at heights. May require overtime and travel.
Work Environment
Potential hazards in ship repair yard, working in extreme temperatures, with accommodations available for disabilities.
