Mechanic – Maintenance Team
CF&I Steel, L.P., located in Pueblo, Colorado, seeks a Mechanic to oversee, service, and repair mobile equipment. The role reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.
Responsibilities
- Overhaul, service, and repair mobile equipment in a safe manner.
- Perform service, cutting and welding operations.
- Overhaul engines, transmissions, and differentials.
- Operate most mobile equipment.
- Maintain job records for each piece of equipment.
- Use hand and pneumatic tools, steam cleaner, jacks, hoists, hydraulic press, torches, welders, forklifts, boom crane, trucks, travel lifts, straddle carriers, crimping machine, diagnostic equipment, oils, lubricants, gaskets, and necessary safety equipment.
- Observe all safety rules and LOTO procedures; keep work area and equipment clean and orderly.
- Perform routine maintenance and assist other maintenance personnel.
- Provide direction and instruction to trainees in the program.
- Work both inside and outside environmental conditions exposed to elevated noise levels, vibrations, extreme cold and heat; close proximity to moving parts and vehicles; exposure to high heat, hot surfaces, chemicals, grease and oils; use respirator as conditions require.
Qualifications
- Completion of or equivalence to a Mechanic Apprenticeship.
- 1–3 years of experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, or mining; experience with machinery, equipment operation, or a closely related field preferred.
- Proficient in manipulating numbers, quantities, shapes, and spaces; able to take precise measurements and calculate necessary dimensions.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Self‑starter ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Physical ability to climb, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, make repetitive motions, hear, and occasionally exert forces up to 100 pounds.
- Must demonstrate proficiency through testing.
- Must obtain and maintain OSHA10 and equipment certifications as required.
Physical Demands
Work in environments exposed to noise, vibrations, extreme temperatures, high heat, hot surfaces, chemicals, grease, and oils; use respiratory protection as conditions require.
