Job summary

Adams Construction Company in Virginia seeks a skilled Mechanic to maintain and repair Dump Trucks, Service Trucks, and heavy equipment used in road construction.

Under supervision, you will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose malfunctions, inspect brakes and wheels, and test drive equipment. A High School diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and at least five years of experience are required; CDL is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, greases and assists in setting up, adjusting, repairing various types of off road/ on road equipment and motor vehicles.
  • May operate any equipment on a temporary basis for trouble shooting and adjustment analysis.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure they are working properly.
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Attach test instruments to equipment, and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Rebuild gas or diesel engines.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Process written and oral analysis reports for recordkeeping.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision and maintain a cooperative working relationship with coworkers and the general public.
