Job summary

Adams-Construction-Company is seeking an Asphalt Distributor Operator to drive and operate a distributor truck, applying liquid asphalt and tack coats on road surfaces and parking areas. You will manage spray systems, ensure uniform coverage, and maintain temperatures for material consistency.

Responsibilities include pre-cleaning roads, performing routine equipment maintenance, and adhering to strict safety protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Class B CDL with Tanker endorsement required.
• Must possess an acceptable driving record.
• 3 years of experience required.
• Ability to operate additional heavy equipment is a plus.
• Able to pass required pre-employment drug tests and random testing during employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate the distributor truck and spray systems to apply tack or prime coats.
• Possess and operate the Broom Sweeper to pre-clean roadways prior to tack application.
• Ensure even, precise distribution of asphalt products at designated rates.
• Maintain equipment by cleaning spray bars, pumps, and tanks; monitor burners and temperatures; perform daily safety inspections.
• Ensure efficient working condition of equipment and perform minor servicing; report major issues to supervisor.
• Follow strict safety protocols when handling hot asphalt and hazardous materials.
• Load, transport, and unload materials and equipment as needed.
• Understand paving industry concepts like grades, drainage, patterns, and compaction.

Job description

An Asphalt Distributor Operator is a skilled construction professional who drives and operates a specialized truck to apply liquid asphalt, emulsions, or tack coat to road surfaces, parking lots, and driveways. They are responsible for setting the pace of paving operations, controlling spray bars, ensuring uniform material coverage, and heating materials to proper temperatures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operating Equipment:Driving the distributor truck and managing the computerized or manual spray systems to apply tack or prime coats.
• Ability to operate the Broom Sweeper to sweep/clean the roadway prior to the application of tack.
• Material Application:Ensuring even, precise, and consistent distribution of asphalt products at designated rates.
• System Maintenance:Cleaning spray bars, pumps, and tanks; monitoring burners to maintain material temperature; and performing daily safety inspections (pre-trip/post-trip).
• The operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor
• Safety Adherence:Following strict safety protocols for handling hot asphalt and hazardous materials.
• Operate and maneuver equipment as necessary to load, transport and unload construction materials and other related equipment by manipulating various gears, levers and special attachments.
• Possess a solid understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
• May perform other related duties such as shovel work, setting string line, adding or removing screed extensions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move from 10 to50 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
• Ability to work in demanding weather conditions to include heat, cold, and dust.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma/GED
• Class B Commercial Driver’s License AND Tanker endorsement are required
• Must possess an acceptable driving record
• 3 Years Experience
• Ability to operate additional heavy equipment a plus
• Able to pass required pre-employment drug test as well as random testing during employment.
