Job summary

City Of Manchester Office Of Recorder is seeking an automotive mechanic to repair and overhaul city vehicles, buses, and equipment. You will perform inspections, disassembly, replacement of major components, and electrical work as needed.

Role requires CDL Class B Tennessee license with ability to diagnose using scanners and test equipment, and to work on light and heavy equipment in field or shop environments. On-call 24/7 with rapid response authority is included.

Qualifications

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school or 3–6 months related experience.
  • CDL Class B Tennessee Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicle and determine repairs with supervisor.
  • Disassemble, repair, or replace mechanical units (engine, transmission, differential).
  • Diagnose using scanners and testing methods; perform repairs as needed.
  • Rewire ignition systems, brakes, and electrical components; service tires and hydraulics.

SUMMARYRepairs and overhauls automobiles, buses, trucks, and other city heavy or light equipment by performing the following duties in shop facility or field as requiredESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESExamines vehicle and discussed with department head or supervisor the nature and extend of damage or malfunction. Plan work procedureRaises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or lift to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicleRemoves unit such as engine, transmission, or differentialDisassembles unit and inspects parts for wearRepairs or replaces pats as neededOverhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumpsRewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panelRelines and adjusts brakes, repairs or replaces shock absorbersMends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken partsReplaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipersMust be able to perform diagnostics/scanning for testingFamiliar with hydraulic systems, repairs, and replacementsRepair, mount, and balance all types of tiresBasic Knowledge and operation of multiple types of equipmentGeneral knowledge of welding, cutting torch, plasma cutter and band sawMust be able to operate all equipment classified as light and heavy equipment by the Manchester Public Works DepartmentPerforms other duties may be assignedOn call 24/7Must respond to callout with in 30-minute time frameSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNone requiredQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
