Job summary

Baltimore City Public Schools seeks a District Office - Transportation technician to perform diagnostic, installation, maintenance and repair work on district vehicles and equipment. You will inspect buses, repair engines and electrical systems, and conduct road tests to verify issues.

The role requires CDL with appropriate endorsements and several years of hands-on automotive repair experience, with a focus on safety and compliance with district policies and state regulations.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Three years of maintenance and repair experience on automotive and mechanical equipment.
• Maryland Class A or B CDL with air brakes, passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Knowledge of operation and repair of gasoline and diesel vehicles and specialized equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical, fuel, drive train, engine, brake and exhaust systems.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses problems and performs repairs on gasoline and diesel automobiles, trucks and school buses.
• Performs Type A and Type B inspections on school buses as required by COMAR.
• Repairs engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, exhaust systems, brake systems, transmissions, differential assemblies and other components.
• Road tests vehicles to verify complaints and ensure repair adequacy.
• Diagnose and maintain hydraulic systems including wheelchair lifts on buses.
• Performs preventive maintenance on school buses and other equipment.
• Maintains safety and compliance with laws and policies.
• Provides tools and maintains organized work space.

Performs diagnostic, installation, maintenance and repair work on Baltimore City Public Schools-owned school buses and other vehicles or mechanical equipment.

Essential Functions

• Diagnoses problems and performs repairs on gasoline and diesel automobiles, trucks and school buses.
• Perform Type A and Type B inspections on school buses as required by COMAR.
• Repairs engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, exhaust systems, brake systems, transmissions, differential assemblies and other vehicle components.
• Road tests vehicles to verify complaints and ensure adequacy of repair.
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems including wheel chair lifts on buses.
• Performs preventive maintenance tasks on school buses, automotive equipment and other mechanical equipment.
• Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.
• Provides hand tools and storage cabinet as needed to efficiently perform assigned tasks.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards for work area and tool storage.

Desired Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Three years of maintenance and repair of automotive and other mechanical equipment experience.
• Maryland Class A or B Commercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license, with air brakes, passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Knowledge of the operation and repair of various gasoline and diesel vehicles and specialized equipment, including, engines, transmissions, wheel chair lifts, and other complex components.
• Knowledge of electrical, fuel, drive train, engine, brake and exhaust systems and the techniques of their repair.
• Knowledge of the tools, equipment and machinery used in the repair of gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing electronically controlled engines, transmissions, and fuel systems, electrical systems and other major components on vehicles and specialized equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret written work rules, service material and resources, including schematics and, trouble-shooting flow charts.
• Ability to record required service and parts information on work orders.

In accor dance with Maryland law, City School is required to share the position salary ranges in its entirety. Please note, this is not the hiring range. The hiring range for this position is ($27.89 - $33.54)
