Job summary

TopSide Marinas in Wisconsin is seeking a Mechanic/Marine Technician to perform troubleshooting, repair, and installation of marine engines and propulsion systems across our fleet. The role requires 4 years of mechanical repair experience, ability to read electrical diagrams, and the use of test instruments; must provide personal tools and a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair marine engines (gasoline and diesel) from maintenance to overhaul.
• Repair/rebuild gearsets, transmissions, and sterndrives.
• Repair propulsion components such as transmissions and stern drives.
• Diagnose and repair 110V gensets and 12V battery systems.
• Perform winterization and spring commissioning of engines and systems.
• Install mechanical equipment (engines, air conditioning systems, pumps, windlasses).
• Perform mechanical repairs on boat systems (water, waste, steering, controls).
• Demonstrate judgment, problem-solving, and teamwork.
• Complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.

Job description

Reports to: Mechanical Manager

The Mechanic/Marine Technician’s responsibility is to perform the duties below on a regular basis and meet customer satisfaction standards as well as company sales and safety requirements. This position requires the team member to work 5 days per week and 8 hours per day. Seasonal schedule changes may take place at management discretion.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Perform trouble shooting and repair of marine gasoline and diesel engines, from maintenance to complete overhaul
2. Repair/rebuild gearsets, transmissions and sterndrives
3. Repair propulsion components such as transmissions, sail drives, stern drives, etc.
4. Diagnose and repair 110V gensets, 12V and battery bank systems
5. Perform winterization and spring commissioning of engines and ships systems
6. Install mechanical equipment such as; new engines, air conditioning systems, pumps, anchor windlass, and others as assigned
7. Perform mechanical repairs on boat equipment including water systems, waste systems, steering systems, engine controls, pumps, etc.
8. Demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving skills and abilities
9. Perform other duties as assigned or apparent

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

• Act with the highest level of integrity and maintain a positive attitude
• High school diploma or GED required
• Valid drivers license required
• 4 years of experience in the performance of mechanical repair and installation
  • Apprentice offered outside of this qualification
• Ability to speak and read English and understand electrical wiring diagrams
• Ability to use test instruments
• Must provide personal mechanical tools and test equipment
  • Apprentices may allow for tool crib use
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job (see below)
• Must be able to complete assigned work in an efficient and timely manner
• Strong work ethic and personal commitment
• Ability to work in a team environment to achieve team, department, and company goals
• Ability to be a self-starter and work independently
• Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs
• Ability to work comfortably around water
• Ability to work in tight spaces
• Ability to work at heights of up to 30 feet
• Stand, sit, walk, push, pull, climb, crawl, bend, kneel, squat, twist, reach, grasp
