Tyson Foods in Cullman, AL is hiring a 1st shift Diesel Mechanic to maintain tractors, trailers, and live production equipment. You will diagnose issues, perform routine maintenance, and ensure compliance with DOT rules while keeping a safe work environment.
This role requires six months of diesel mechanic experience or a diesel mechanic training program, basic tools, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. You must be willing to work weekends/holidays and lift up to 100 pounds.
Job Details: 1st Shift--Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Times may vary as needed. The Primary Purpose of this job is to maintain all tractors, trailers, and live production equipment in operating condition which requires being able to diagnose issues, adjust, repair, and perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment while complying with Department of Transportation rules and regulations, maintaining a safe work environment, and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures. In addition, this position will be responsible for shuttling tractor/trailers to other locations.
Must be able to maintain, diagnose, repair any equipment necessary to assure continuous operations with supervision. Must be able to maintain any support equipment, change trailer and tractor tires, and help in layout and install new and rebuilt parts on equipment with supervision. Must be able to assemble or reassemble complex equipment that requires maintenance knowledge with supervision. Must be willing to maintain clean work area as well as other shop areas. Must be willing to wear proper PPE. Must be willing to follow proper safety practices and procedures. Must be able and willing to stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, climb and lie on back. Must be able and willing to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance. Must be willing to tolerate temperatures and conditions ranging from cold and damp to hot and humid. Must be willing to perform all other duties assigned by supervisor. The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Must have Diesel Mechanic experience. Must meet all DOT and Tyson Fleet Safety Driver Qualifications to be approved to drive Tyson fleet vehicles of any kind. Must have basic tools. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions, shop manuals and other written documents. Must have basic computer skills required for data input. Must have experience working with power hand tools, welder, cutting tools, test equipment, forklift, hand tools, hydraulic press, lift equipment, ladder, hydraulic hose crimper, drill press, torque wrenches up to 600 ft/lbs., and any other equipment required to maintain and repair diesel trucks, trailers, and live production equipment. Must be able to work as part of a team. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays if necessary.
Must have six (6) months of Diesel Mechanic experience or be a graduate of a Diesel Mechanic Training Program. Experience must be documented on the application or resume. Experience may be a combination of employers, provided the total documented experience equals at least six (6) months.
Must have six (6) months of continuous work history with one (1) employer within the last twenty-four (24) months, regardless of whether the position held was a (Diesel) Mechanic role or another type of position.
Former Tyson Team Members must be separated from the company for a minimum of 180 calendar days. Also, if you have worked at Tyson 3 times or more you will not be eligible for rehire.
