Mechanic – Maintenance IAPI
Position Overview:
As a Mechanic, you will provide general maintenance support for the IAPI site, focused on equipment uptime and reliability. You will work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality Control, and various other groups to troubleshoot, maintain and perform Corrective and Preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment used in our manufacturing operations, and provide project support on production and utility related equipment.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
- Perform repairs and overhaul basic Equipment (e.g., gear boxes, pumps, blowers, fans, drives)
- Perform repairs and overhaul complex equipment to include disassembly, setting tolerances, aligning, resetting timing, (e.g., air compressors, vacuum pumps)
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections/repairs and document additional repairs needed.
- Maintain and perform preventive maintenance on shop and safety equipment (e.g., tools, machinery, and confined space equipment).
- Troubleshoot root causes of machine problems (e.g., excessive vibration or temperature, bearing failures, abnormal noises, and poor performance).
- Lubricate machinery and rolling stock throughout the plant, including removing and replacing machine guards (e.g., production equipment, fans, ventilation equipment, etc.)
- Inspect/repair process fluid hoses (e.g., verify grounding, replace fittings, hydrotest).
- Remove, make precision repairs, and reinstall equipment such as compressors, vacuum pumps, etc.
- Inspect, test, and replace safety relief valves, control valves, actuators and other miscellaneous valves.
- Clean and/or reclaim pipe fittings and valves.
- Inspect and rebuild steam traps.
- Set up equipment to design specifications (e.g., timing, leveling, alignment).
- Operate precision alignment equipment (e.g., Laser Alignment, etc.).
- Operate rigging equipment (e.g., chain hoist, jib cranes, slings and chains) for equipment removal or installation (e.g., tanks, agitators, condensers, heat exchanges)
- Provide accurate, complete, and legible Work Order documentation on both paper copy (when required) and in GMARS system.
Basic Qualifications:
- 3-5 years mechanical experience in a heavy industrial environment
- High School diploma/GED
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Associate’s degree or Technical Certificate in a mechanical discipline, or equivalent experience. Applicable military service training may be an acceptable alternative
- Maintenance experience in a manufacturing production environment or relevant field preferred
- Experience with a regulated industry; FDA regulated industries preferred
- Must be able to speak, read and write English at a sufficient level to communicate technical and business information effectively
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in troubleshooting equipment failures
- Ability to follow written procedures while performing maintenance activities
- Good documentation practices and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, working safely and accountable for supporting all HSE Corporate and Site Goals
- Familiar with set-up and operation of Maintenance Shop hand tools & equipment; machining and welding capability a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical & electrical prints/schematics.
- Must be able to effectively work in a team/collaborative environment.
- Willingness to work outside of your craft, as required
- Ability to perform quality work without close supervision
- Proficiency in using a CMMS (e.g., Maximo) or other work order tracking system
- Microsoft Applications Knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Additional Information:
- Night shift position (3on – 3off, 12 hr. 5:30pm – 5:30am)
- Overtime may be required during shutdowns, emergency situations, or periods of heavy workloads.
- This position may work in and around potentially dangerous and hazardous equipment, powders, liquids and gasses. Safety is paramount for this position.
- Working safely is a condition of employment. Individual must be able to comply with all building gowning and SOP requirements.
- US travel requirements are 5% or less.
