Job Description

Episcopal Academy is seeking a skilled and dependable Mechanic to join our Facilities team. The Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of the school's vehicles, equipment, and their mechanical systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the school's transportation services and overall campus functionality. Additional roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain, inspect, and diagnose/repair issues related to grounds, operation, and maintenance equipment, including diesel, electric, and gasoline-powered mowers/machinery and other small mechanical equipment used on campus.
  • Prioritize and schedule equipment repair and maintenance work.
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance program within budget for all equipment, including purchasing repair parts and replacement supplies.
  • Organize and manage records and budgets for all equipment inventory, preventative maintenance, and repair costs.
  • Oversee the maintenance shop area.
  • Communicate necessary purchases and repairs.
  • Ensure all equipment is in safe working condition.
  • Perform daily reel maintenance and scheduled sharpening/grinding.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Assist in training staff on proper procedures and equipment operation.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical issues.
  • Maintain a parts inventory and an organized parts room.
  • Assist with snow removal, including shoveling, salting, sanding, and operating snow removal vehicles and equipment (24-hour on-call during inclement weather).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About You

  • Minimum of 2-4 years experience in vehicle or equipment maintenance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in automotive, diesel, or mechanical repair preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the Facilities and Operations team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment (light/heavy).
  • Proficiency with equipment repair tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagnose issues, and repair electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Experience in grinding reel mowers and setting up mowing equipment to high standards.
