Job summary

A national transportation company is looking for a Mechanic Level B in El Paso, Texas. The successful candidate will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose, service, and repair various vehicle systems including brakes and engines. Applicants must have at least five years of experience in automotive or diesel mechanics. Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in automotive or diesel mechanics.
  • Basic understanding of automotive/heavy duty systems.
  • ASE A1-A8 certification preferred.
  • Trade school/college graduate or five years heavy diesel maintenance experience.
  • Must be able to lift minimum of 60 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on vehicles.
  • Diagnose and investigate causes of defective vehicle operation.
  • Maintain and repair vehicle systems including brakes and A/C.
  • Perform major overhauls and tune-ups to brakes and steering systems.
  • Operate buses to diagnose component failure, perform roadside repairs, or move disabled buses/vehicles.

Who You Are: As a Mechanic, you will perform preventative maintenance, diagnosis, service and repair of steering, suspension, brakes, engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical, wheelchair lifts, and air conditioning systems. Successful applicants must be able to work safely, perform part analysis on damaged parts, and assist in inventory control or other duties as necessary.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Diagnoses, examines, and investigates vehicles to determine causes of defective operation of engines, transmissions, differential units, generators, starters, pumps, air suspension systems, pneumatic systems, radiators, injectors, clutches, air conditioning systems, and other vehicle components.
  • Determines proper course of action to facilitate vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment, and component replacement.
  • Maintains, adjusts and/or repairs all bus systems, components and parts including hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, front ends, air conditioning systems to ensure operational fitness of the vehicle.
  • Performs major overhauls, major tune-ups and repair to brakes and steering systems.
  • Changes windows and seats, and performs minor body repair.
  • Operate buses in order to diagnose component failure, make roadside repairs or move disabled buses/vehicles.
  • Operates heavy machinery, hydraulic lifts, hoists and jacks, brake lathes.
  • Communicates and consults with all levels of employees.
  • Respond to breakdowns.
  • Mentors lower skill level technicians/mechanics.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Document all activities in MV's Fleet Management System.
  • Maintain work environment in an organized and safe condition.
Qualifications
  • Must have (5) years of experience in automotive or diesel mechanics, which may include fleet experience.
  • Have taken basic automotive or heavy-duty repair courses or have a good understanding of basic automotive/heavy duty systems.
  • A/C certifications.
  • ASE A1-A8 preferred.
  • Trade school/college graduate or five years heavy diesel maintenance experience.
  • Work well with others and willing to learn.
  • Must be able to lift minimum of 60 lbs.
