Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. (ESS) seeks a Mechanic Intern to support our Equipment team during the May–August program. You will learn to diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers while working beside seasoned technicians.

This hands-on internship offers real-world exposure to preventive maintenance, repair workflows, and safety procedures in a construction equipment environment. Academic credit may be available, with potential for future employment based on performance.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a degree or technical program (Diesel/Heavy Equipment Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Construction Management, or related field), or high school diploma/equivalent with strong interest in the field.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment is a plus but not mandatory.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to a fast-paced, hands-on setting.
• Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
• Comfortable working in outdoor/field and shop environments.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintenance Support: Assist mechanics with routine maintenance and repair work on company equipment, including heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers.
• Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Observe and participate in diagnosing equipment issues, learning to identify problems and develop solutions under the guidance of experienced staff.
• Preventative Maintenance: Help perform preventative maintenance tasks to support optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime.
• Documentation: Assist in maintaining equipment‑related reports, maintenance logs, and metrics.
• Compliance & Safety: Learn and follow safety procedures and regulatory requirements related to equipment operation and maintenance.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with mechanics, equipment managers, and field staff to support equipment division goals.
• Process Improvement: Participate in identifying opportunities to improve maintenance and repair processes.
